Texas Hold’em Flop Philosophy

♠ February 28th, 2009 by ♣ admin

We can evaluate our hand by following groups:

1. Strong hand - these cards are the combination of cards that we can always consider ourselves winners with. These are mostly flushes, straights, two pairs. Of course, there are exceptions.
2. Marginal hand - this hand is strong enough and can become the strongest hand at the showdown. Having this cards, as a rule, before we bet all-in, we have to consider the following: is it possible our opponents to have not that strong hands and nevertheless risk to bet all-in. If it is not, as a rule. We either win the small pot when our opponent folds or lose the big pot when our opponent calls. These hands usually contain two pairs with top kickers or we have one pair and in order to make three of a kind, we have one of the community cards open.
3. Low hand - these are hands with almost zero odds to win at the showdown. Mostly these are two pairs as well as two pairs with top kickers when the flop is dangerous.
4. Draw combinations - these are hands with no odds during the flop but can become winning after the turn and the river.
5. Garbage -with these cards we have no real odds at all.

In case our hand is from Group 1, we aim to make a big pot. In other words, we have to attack no matter how many opponents we have and what is our position. The other possibility is to call or raise but then it will be difficult to make a big pot. Our strategy should be aggressive.

In case our hand is from Group 3, our aim is to lose less. If we have one opponent, we usually attack during the flop. With two opponents our decision depends on the Flop and our position. With three opponents it is preferable to check or fold.

In case our hand is from Group 4 and in the pre-flop we already attacked, it is better to attack during the Fop or even bet or raise, especially if we have strong (eleven or more outs) drew combinations.

In case our hand is from Group 5, the best action is to check or fold.

The most complicated situation is when our hand is from Group 2. When having one opponent, we always continue the attack. With three opponents and dangerous Flop you have to be ready to fold after your opponents counter-attack. It is considered mistake to play all-in with these hands when during the pre-flop one or more opponents answer our raise. With two opponents we always attack during the flop if we attacked during pre-flop but after that we have to be very careful. If you are convinced that most of your opponent hands are low, then definitely you should play aggressively.

This game is a combination of skill and knowledge and not everyone is good at it.

Video Poker Money Management

♠ February 26th, 2009 by ♣ admin

Never Gamble With Money You Can’t Afford To Lose.

The most important rule of gambling is Never Gamble With Money You Cannot Afford To Lose. Winning at video poker is not a short term investment. Don’t use money that you should be spending on food or rent. Instead take your gambling money out of your free spending money. Maybe set aside a fixed amount each week or month and keep it separate from the rest of your money.

What Money Management Isn’t.

Money management isn’t about about changing the amount you bet based on past results or false probability. If this weeks lottery numbers were 1, 7, 15, 33, 40, 45, then instinctively you may believe that next weeks numbers are less likely to be the same than any other combination. In reality the the chances of these numbers coming up again are the same as they always were and always will be.

This is also true of video poker probability. If you have a Royal Flush with one hand e chances of getting one with the next hand are just the same as ever. So money management is not about quitting while you are ahead. The reverse is also true. If you are getting a run of bad hands, money management is not about reducing the size of your bets. If you do this you may hit upon a good hand and as you have invested less than normal you will not get the profits needed to pay for your losses.

How Big A Bank Roll Do I Need?

There are complicated mathematical calculations for working out the size of bankroll needed to statistically avoid going bust before hitting a good hand. These calculations however are beyond the scope of this article.

Bob Dancer, the author of Million Dollar Video Poker, recommends using the 3 to 5 rule. This rule states that to have a good statistical chance of being able to play and hit a big hand before you go bankrupt, you need a bankroll that is 3 to 5 times the pay out for a Royal Flush.

Know The Rules Of The Game.

It may sound obvious, but before you invest any of your own money in a game, make sure you know the rules. You can play video poker for free online, alternatively go to our Free Video Poker page and play cash video poker on sites which offer you a free cash deposit in your account without you making a deposit. This way you can get the feel of playing for real money, but without risking any of your cash.

5 Tips For Playing Draws in Online Poker Games

♠ February 25th, 2009 by ♣ admin

Draws can be tricky to play for the beginning poker player. With concepts such as ‘pot odds’, ‘outs’ and ‘redraws’ all over the poker literature the correct course of action can seem confusing. A hand which requires only one more card to become a powerful flush or straight is a strong holding and should often be played positively. Here we show you 5 tips for playing drawing hands better - so that you can profit from these situations again and again.

Tip #1 - On The Flop Use The ‘Rule Of 4′

If you flop 4 cards to a flush or straight and want a rough estimate of how often you will complete your hand by the river then the ‘rule of 4′ is an easy and reasonably close approximation. Simply multiply the number of cards which will complete your hand by 4 on the flop - you’ll have a percentage winning chance to work with. For example with 9 unseen cards that will make you a flush (you have 2 in your hand and there are 2 on the board out of 13 of each suit) you have 9*4 = 36% to make it by the river. Simply halve this on the turn!

Tip #2 - Straight Draws Can Be Better Than Flush Draws

While a flush beats a straight in a poker showdown, when drawing it can pay to have the straight. The reason is that when 3 of a suit appear on the board and the betting becomes big it can be pretty obvious that there could be a made flush around. With a straight this is often less obvious - meaning you can win more bets from an opponent who does not believe you.

Tip #3 - Drawing To The Nuts

When paying off a bet to see the next card the chances of you making your hand have to be balanced with the fact that you might make your hand and still lose. For example if you make a low flush with 67 suited in your hand, there is a danger that you may end up 2nd best to an opponent with higher suited cards. Ensure you know your opponents well in these circumstances - understanding who will pay off big with a 2nd best hand can win you a lot of money over time.

Tip #4 - Depth Of The Chip Stacks

If you are going to pay to see a turn or river card you need to ensure that both you and your opponent have enough chips for more betting on the river. The key concept here is that you need to be paid off when you make your hand often enough to make up for those times when you miss. Since your opponent will sometimes fold you need to ensure that there are enough chips to be paid off over and above what would be mathematically ‘correct’ on the other occasions.

Tip #5 - Draws And Fold Equity

Since you will usually be a underdog to a made hand on the flop a drawing poker hand often needs a little extra help to become profitable over time. If you can get your opponents to fold then your hand becomes doubly powerful. Sometimes your positive and aggressive play will get an opponent to fold - and you will make your hand some of the time when you are called. As with all poker games, positive play is usually far better than simply calling bets and trying to make your hand.

Poker Job - The Top 3 Opportunities

♠ February 24th, 2009 by ♣ admin

Did you know that a poker job can provide you with the opportunity to generate a full-time income? Earning money from this gamblers’ card game is exciting and fun, so let’s talk about working possibilities that poker can offer you.

If you enjoy playing and think that you are pretty good at it, you could become a pro on the Internet. Online, you don’t have to limit yourself to just a single game. As incredibly as it sounds, pros often play on up to 30 different tables at the same time, thereby multiplying their earnings potential. To become a professional player you have to be really good at the game.

Secondly, if you’re not ready yet to become a pro, think about becoming a poker prop. This is a person paid by the casino to help start new games or to help keep them going. Usually, the casino will pay above a 100% rakeback. This means you pay no rake and get additional money on top of it. Even though props get paid, they usually play with their own money.

Lastly, there’s another attractive option: becoming a hand dealer. Dealers earn around $8 per hour. To become a dealer, you should not only have full knowledge of every poker game out there, you also have to be really good at math, and communicate well with the players on your table. A dealer’s responsibilities start with shuffling the cards and end with making sure that winnings are distributed appropriately. To be a successful dealer is not as easy as it sounds, yet it will help your game strategy more than any guide book could.

All in all, any job in the world of online gambling games gives you an opportunity to earn money while having fun and excitement. As you will see, there are different money making opportunities in this field, and all of them demand great mathematical skill, intuition and emotional dominance.

Win Online Betting

♠ February 20th, 2009 by ♣ admin

Sports betting has become one of the most popular hobbies. With a struggling economy, more people are staying home and watching sports on television than ever before. This has led many into thinking they can make a few extra bucks betting on the games.

Betting can be a great hobby. Many people have become so good at it they do it weekly to supplement their income or completely replace their job. However, many people have lost hundreds of dollars, if not thousands, betting on games. Each person’s story is different but a majority of people are losing bets for the same reasons.

The most common reason is they lack patience. They want to make money quickly and therefore, they bet on too many games. Successful bettors will tell you never to bet on more than 20% of the games during a particular season. This 20% is actually a little high, but if you are betting on more than 20%, you will surely lose in the long run.

Another common mistake is people bet with their heart instead of their brain. It doesn’t matter how much research you do if you are going to bet with bias and subjectivity. That is why people lose so much money betting on their favorite team. They can’t bet against their team, even if they think they are going to lose. They even bet for their team to win in games they think their team will probably lose. You might win a bet here and there with this betting style but you will never be a winner in the long run betting this haphazardly.

The key to sport betting success is using a sports betting system. I use the Sports Betting Champ. The price of $197 is a lot but it pays for itself within a few bets and I’ve made more money using it than any job I’ve ever had. Don’t let this offer pass you by Click Here!

The Sports Betting Champ is a sports betting system that helps people win bets at an astonishing rate. Handicappers and other betting guru’s offer advice that allows you to win bets at a solid rate of about 70%. That used to be a great percentage. However, now there’s a system that can help you win 97% of your bets. It sure does make that 70% look pretty modest.
